Ottawa (Canada) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned, the Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail reported. Trudeau has been under pressure from his Liberal Party MPs for months to resign. Canada is due to hold parliamentary elections before October; however, Trudeau’s resignation could bring these elections earlier. According to several polls conducted in the country, if elections are held in Canada, the Conservative Party could get a majority; because the people are suffering from rising inflation. In an Ipsos survey conducted in October last year, only 28 percent of citizens said that Trudeau should run for re-election. The number of people who disapprove of Trudeau has reached 65 percent.
Trudeau’s party does not have a majority
There are 338 seats in the Canadian parliament. The majority number is 170. Trudeau’s Liberal Party has 153 MPs. Last year, the pro-Khalistan New Democratic Party, an ally of the Trudeau Government, withdrew the support of 25 of its MPs. This put the Trudeau Government in a minority. In the majority test, Trudeau’s Liberal Party got the support of another party. This saved Trudeau’s Government.
