External Affairs Ministry appeals to Indian citizens
New Delhi – The civil war has been going on since 27th November in Syria, an Islamic country in the Middle East. Rebels here have gained control over 3 major cities. They are marching towards the capital Damascus. In this background, the Ministry of External Affairs of India has issued guidelines for Indians and has asked Indian citizens to be alert. Indian citizens should avoid traveling to Syria. Indian citizens in Syria have also been ordered to leave Syria as soon as possible. Indian citizens currently in Syria have been urged to contact the Indian High Commission in Damascus.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we are closely monitoring the situation in Syria. There are 90 Indian nationals in Syria. Out of which 14 are working for various organizations of the United Nations. Citizen safety will be our top priority.
