Dharwad (Karnataka) – After Vijayapur, a discussion regarding the issue of Waqf Board’s name in the land records of Hindu farmers in Dharwad District has started. Initially, this was applied to Hindu farmers. Now it is extended to the lands of Muslim farmers as well. The name of the Waqf Board is also mentioned in the land records of the religious leaders guiding the Muslim community. Although they received the lands as a gift (Inam), they were entitled to its ownership after the amendment of the Inam Act, but now the name of Waqf has been recorded in the records of thousands of acres of land of hundreds of Muslim religious leaders. These leaders oppose this as the Waqf Board is bent on acquiring the land belonging to them.
Editorial PerspectiveAre these Muslims now going to oppose the Waqf Act ? Or are they going to demand the repeal of this law ? |
