Govt accuses them of ‘abetting the crime’
New Delhi – The Union Ministry of Information Technology held an online meeting with leading social media companies ‘X’ and ‘Meta’ along with the aviation companies on October 23. In the past few weeks, there have been several instances of bomb hoax on the planes. The Government questioned these companies what they did to prevent these hoaxes. The ministry also alleged that there is circumstantial evidence that you are in fact abetting the crime.
1. In the last 9 days, more than 170 flight services received bomb threats due to which the aviation industry suffered a loss of Rs 600 crore.
2. On October 22 alone, more than 50 flight services received bomb threats. These include the services by aviation companies Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara etc.
3. Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu recently said that names of those spreading hoaxes may be included in the ‘No Fly List’. Along with this, there are plans to amend the ‘Aviation Security Regulations and Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Civil Aviation Security Act, 1982’.
4. Vikram Dev Dutt, the head of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has recently been removed from the post and appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Coal. This shift is being linked to bomb threats.
