Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) – On October 8, two Territorial Army soldiers on patrol in the forests of Shangus and Kokernag, located in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, were abducted by terrorists. While one soldier managed to escape from the clutches of the terrorists, though injured, the other was reported to have been held captive. The abduction occurred during the vote counting for the assembly elections. A search operation was launched on the morning of October 9 to locate the missing soldier. During this operation, the body of the abducted soldier was found in the Utrasu forest area of Kokernag. The soldier was identified as Hilal Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Mukhedampora Nogam, according to military sources.

In a post, the ‘Chinar Corps’ stated that based on intelligence inputs, Indian soldiers and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint anti-terror operation in the Kazwan forest area on October 8. It was during this patrol that Hilal Ahmad Bhat was abducted.

  • The Indian government must recognize the urgent need to gain control over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a government that encourages terrorism is about to be in power in Kashmir.
