Minorities attacked again in Bangladesh
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Attacks on minorities have not stopped in Bangladesh. On September 19, fanatic Muslims attacked Hindus and Buddhists in Dighinala and Khagrachari Sadar areas of Chittagong. More than 200 houses and shops were burnt. A Buddhist temple was also damaged. 3 people have died in this violence.
On September 18, a criminal named Muhammad Mamoon was reportedly killed in Khagrachari area. The murder took place when Mamoon was trying to steal a bike. After this, a rumour was spread that the tribals had attacked the Bengalis and killed a person. Mosques were also misused to spread this rumour. An organisation called ‘Bengali Chhatra Parishad’ took out a march on September 19 to protest Mamoon’s death. The people who participated in it, attacked the Buddhist Chakma and the Hindu Tripuri community. Their houses and shops were targeted. Children, senior citizens and women were beaten up. 20- year-old Junan Chakma, 60-year-old Dhananjay and 30-year-old Rubel Tripura died in the violence. Locals claim that many more people have died.
