Use of fish oil, pork and beef fat in the prasad laddus of Tirupati Temple

Test report of a Gujarat laboratory revealed

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) – After Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu revealed that animal fat was used in the laddus offered at the Tirupati Balaji Temple, the laboratory test report for these laddus has now come to light. Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party has made this report public. According to the report, it was found that fish oil, pork and beef fat were used in these laddus. So far, the temple administration has not issued any official statement regarding this matter. In the 300-year-old kitchen of the Tirupati Temple, 3,50,000 laddus are made daily. This is the temple’s main prasad, prepared by around 200 Brahmins using pure gram flour, sugar, cashews, and clarified butter (ghee).

For the past 50 years, the Karnataka Co-operative Milk Federation had been supplying ghee to the temple at subsidised rates. The temple uses 1,400 tons of ghee every six months. In July 2023, the federation refused to continue supplying ghee at lower rates, following which the previous Jaganmohan Reddy Government awarded the ghee supply contract to five other companies in July 2023.

On 17th July this year, the ‘National Dairy Development Board’s Food Lab (CALF) in Gujarat, reported that the ghee used in Tirupati laddus contained animal fat and fish oil. It was discovered that one of the contractors had adulterated the ghee. Following this, Tirumala Trust officer J Shyamala Rao convened a meeting in July, and samples of the laddus were sent to the laboratory for testing. Now, the Telugu Desam Party has released the report. The report revealed that fish oil, pork and beef fat were mixed in the ghee.

On August 29, the Andhra Pradesh Government re-awarded the ghee supply contract to the Karnataka Co-operative Milk Federation, known for its ‘Nandini’ brand of pure ghee. In addition, the temple administration has formed a special four-member committee to monitor the quality of the ghee. A big question arises why was ghee being sourced from the blacklisted contractors ? Temple administration sources revealed that ghee was purchased from these blacklisted contractors at Rs 320 per kg. Currently, ghee is being procured from the Karnataka Co-operative Milk Federation at Rs 475 per kg.

Perpetrators should be hanged : Union Minister Giriraj Singh

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “I believe there is a need for the CBI to investigate the matter of the Tirupati prasad. Is there a conspiracy to destroy Hindu Dharma ? This too should be investigated. Those found guilty must be hanged. This case is not just a scam. The previous YSR Government of Andhra Pradesh had also worked towards large-scale conversion of Hindus.”

Editorial Perspective

The Andhra Pradesh Government must register a case against those responsible, arrest them immediately, and ensure they are sentenced to death through a fast-track Court.
