World fearful of Chinese electronic equipment which cover one-third of equipment around the world

World alerted dur to pager attack in Lebanon

New Delhi – Following the explosions in pagers and other electronic devices in Lebanon, Governments around the world have become alert. In fact, the way technology was used to trigger the explosion of a pager (a wireless device) has raised serious questions about the safety and security of technology. Currently, China manufactures one-third of the world’s electronic devices, rekindling fears regarding the potential risks of Chinese technology. This is not the first time Chinese technology has come under the scrutiny. It has previously been speculated that ‘microchips in Chinese cars, household appliances, and light bulbs could be used for espionage. Additionally, Chinese laptops, voice-controlled smart speakers, smartwatches, smart energy metres, and refrigerators can be used for spying using the internet.’

Fear of the use of Chinese technology against India

If an Israeli intelligence Agency can cause a pager explosion, then imported Chinese phones, televisions, and household electronic appliances could also be exploited for espionage. These devices could even be used to trigger explosions in other countries. This risk is particularly concerning for India, as China could provide such technology to its ally Pakistan, which might then use it against India.

China accounts for nearly one-third of the global exports of electronic devices, meaning one out of every three electronic items sold worldwide is of Chinese origin. For years, China and the US have been locked in a conflict over allegations of espionage involving China’s company, Huawei. India has also kept Chinese products out of its 5G network. Previously, the US had raised concerns over the use of Chinese equipment. Now, the pager explosion has further intensified suspicions surrounding Chinese technology.

Editorial Perspective

Considering China’s expansionist policies, it would not be surprising if China were to engage in such actions. To teach China a lesson, it is essential for all countries to unite globally against China.
