Anti-Hindu claim by Zafar Sobhan, editor of Bangladesh’s ‘Dhaka Tribune’
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Atrocities against Hindus continue even after the ouster of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Incidents of looting, burning of Hindu homes, attacks on temples, and assaults on Hindus in public places have come to light. Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, has acknowledged that Hindus have been subjected to atrocities in Bangladesh. However, Zafar Sobhan, the editor of the Bangladeshi newspaper Dhaka Tribune, is unwilling to accept this. In an article titled “10 things India needs to know about Bangladesh,” published on 23rd August 2024, Zafar Sobhan attempted to attribute the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh to issues of law and order, stating that “this was not religious violence but political violence.”
1. At the very beginning of the article, Sobhan claimed that there is no danger to Hindus in the country. He argued that after Sheikh Hasina fled the country, there was a short period of anarchy and lawlessness. Unfortunately, some of those who were targeted were members of the Hindu community.
2. Zafar Sobhan further wrote that at times like this, those targeted are often the most powerless. (In Bangladesh, Hindus from all levels of society, both poor and wealthy, have been targeted. Sobhan is providing false information – Editor) We all know in South Asia; minorities sadly always remain vulnerable. (Hindus in South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc., are insecure, whereas the minority Muslims in India are becoming more arrogant day by day – Editor)
3. Zafar Sobhan said, the notion that Hindus were the subject of some kind of pogrom and that their targeting and dispossession was in fact an integral prong of the revolution is a fiction. (If that is so, why has the Hindu population in Bangladesh decreased from its original numbers to now less than 8% ? – Editor)
4 The Indian communist news website ‘Scroll’ published Zafar Sobhan’s article on its site. The journalist Shekhar Gupta’s news website ‘The Print’ also published this article. (This is an example of how India’s communist media is attempting to propagate the narrative that the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh were politically motivated – Editor)
Editorial PerspectiveIf editors of Bangladeshi media are like this, how will the world ever learn the truth and factual information about the attacks on Hindus there ? |
