Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – The Malayalam film industry is in turmoil following the release of the Justice Hema Committee’s report on sexual harassment of actresses. In this context, actress Revathy Sampath has made serious allegations against senior actors Siddique and Riyaz Khan. Following these accusations, Siddique, who was serving as the General Secretary of the Malayalam Film Artists Association, has resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation within hours, assuring that “Justice will be served for everyone in the film industry.” He sent his resignation letter to Chairman Mohanlal. Actress Revathy Sampath had previously accused Siddique of rape in 2019, but the issue did not gain much attention at the time. With the Hema Committee’s findings now public, she has renewed her accusations against Siddique.

Revathy Sampath alleged that in 2016, Siddique contacted her through social media, expressing interest in her acting career and offering opportunities in his films. He invited her to the premiere of one of his movies, and after the event, took her to Hotel Muscat in Thiruvananthapuram, where he allegedly raped her in the hotel room. Siddique had initially reached out under the pretence of discussing an opportunity in his son’s film. Trusting him as a respected figure, she accompanied him without hesitation. However, once in the hotel room, she was sexually assaulted. Revathy mentioned that she has not fully recovered from the traumatic experience and that Siddique, despite his outwardly humble demeanour, has also allegedly assaulted some of her friends.

Revathy also accused actor Riyaz Khan

Actress Revathy Sampath has made serious allegations against actor Riyaz Khan as well. She stated that after obtaining her number from a photographer, Riyaz Khan called her and asked, “Do you like to have physical relations ?”

Special Investigation Team to probe sexual abuse of actresses in the Malayalam film industry

The Kerala Government has announced setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by senior police officers, to investigate allegations of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. This decision follows the submission of a 295-page report by former High Court judge K. Hema to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 19 th .

The report highlights severe issues within the industry, including the casting couch practice, where actresses are coerced into fulfilling sexual demands in exchange for film roles, and widespread sexual harassment by actors and producers.

Editorial Perspective

No matter how much the religious fanatics rise socially or financially, their inherent lustful tendencies persist. Will the Muslim leaders, who often praise the Sharia law, now demand that these actors be punished according to Sharia ?
