Bombay High Court Asks: What Is the Point of the Right to Education if Girls Aren’t Safe in Schools ?

If girls are not safe in schools, then what is the use of the right to education, the Bombay High Court slammed the police and the government over the sexual assault of female students in Badlapur. The Bombay High Court heard the ‘Suo moto’ incident on August 21.The hearing was held before a bench of Justice Revathi Mohite Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan.
Advocate Hiten Venegaonkar appeared in the court on behalf of the state government. In this case, the court criticized the delay of the police in registering the crime. “Not only did the police delay in registering the crime, the school administration also failed to lodge a complaint when it came to light. “This is evident from the crime reported by the victim’s family,” the court said.
