Ajmer (Rajasthan) – A District Court sentenced six convicts to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh each in the country’s biggest case of sexual abuse that took place in the year 1992, 32 years ago. Their names are Nafees Chishti, Naseem aka Tarzan, Salim Chishti, Iqbal Bhati, Sohil Ghani and Syed Jamir Hussain. When the sentence was pronounced, all the convicts were present in the Court. (The charge sheet in a case from 1992 is entered 9 years later and the trial is completed in 2024. This is shameful for Indian administrative systems – Editor).

In 1992, more than 100 college students were gang-raped and their nude photographs were circulated. There were 18 accused in this case. 4 persons have been previously convicted and 4 have been acquitted by the High Court. An accused committed suicide 30 years ago. A case of child molestation was registered against 2 accused. One of them has been convicted and the case against the other one is ongoing.

Convicted criminals then office bearers of Congress

The masterminds of this crime, the then President of Ajmer Youth Congress Farooq Chishti, Nafees Chishti (then Joint Secretary of Youth Congress), Anwar Chishti (then Vice President of Youth Congress) and other accused were friends with the son of a businessman. He was raped and photographed. After blackmailing him, they brought his girlfriend to a poultry farm and raped her. Her nude photos were taken. She was also forced to bring her friends to them. After that, they raped many girls one after another and took nude pictures of those girls. After this they started blackmailing these victims by calling them to different places. Six of these girls later committed suicide.

Editorial Perspective

The verdict of such serious crime after 32 years is not justice, but injustice !
