Stampede in Siddhanath Temple area results in the death of 7 devotees

Incident at Jehanabad (Bihar)

Jehanabad (Bihar) – A stampede in the Siddhanath Temple area on the night of 11thAugust resulted in the death of 7 devotees, while 35 others were injured. A person reported that the temple administration did not manage the crowd well, nor was there adequate security in place. Some people told him that the administration had deployed NCC (National Cadet Corps) youths for security and management at the site; however, they used force on the devotees, leading to panic. This caused chaos and resulted in the unfortunate stampede. The fault lies with the administration.

An eyewitness mentioned that a flower vendor was fighting with some people when the Police used force and people started running helter-skelter, leading to the stampede. Neither the Police nor the administration staff was present during the incident. The tragedy occurred due to the irresponsible behaviour of the Police.

Editorial Perspective

Why can’t the incidents of stampede at the temples be prevented ? Why are the administration and the Police so indifferent and inactive ?
