Nihang Sikhs kill a Hindu shopkeeper outside his house in Punjab

  • Shopkeeper’s son and brother also fatally attacked

  • Murder reportedly due to a dispute over money

Tarn Taran (Punjab) – A Hindu shopkeeper named Shammi Puri was attacked fatally with sword in broad daylight by 6 Nihang Sikhs in Tarn Taran District. His brother and son were also fatally attacked, due to which, both have been seriously injured. The incident took place in the evening of 30th July. Reportedly, the reason for this incident was a dispute over money. Shammi had a dispute over an amount of Rs 1 crore 75 lakh with someone and the Nihangs had been demanding that amount to Shammi. Shammi had also received several telephonic threats.

1. 6 Nihangs came in an Innova car and called Shammi outside his house. When Shammi came out, these Nihangs started beating him up. After that, they attacked him with swords. They attacked the son and the brother who had come to rescue Shammi. Neighbours came out as soon as they heard about the attack. Then the Nihangs started running away. The neighbours chased them. A video of the entire incident is being circulated on the social media.

2. After this incident, Shammi’s family staged a protest. They have demanded earliest arrest of the accused. They have announced that Shammi’s body will not be cremated until the murderer Nihangs are captured.

3. Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Kapoor has said that the accused have been identified and will be nabbed soon.

It has to be debated now whether the Nihang Sikhs be allowed to keep weapons or not, since they are frequently involved in criminal acts lately.
