Minorities must be treated equally in a democracy

Statement of US Ambassador Eric Garcetti to India

Mumbai – It should be seen whether all sections of society, including the minority community, receive equal treatment in the democratic system. It is imperative that they feel they are being treated equally. The principles of equality, diversity, and inclusiveness cannot be only part of elections. They have to be permanent, said US Ambassador Eric Garcetti to India. He was speaking at a special event organised by the US Embassy here regarding the industry.

Garcetti added that I will not comment on how to preserve democracy. Indian citizens will take care of their democracy.

Editorial Perspective

The Government of India is capable of running a democratic system. So instead of preaching to India, Garcetti should introspect about the attacks on the African-Americans in his own country. India should present a report to the world showing the plight of democracy in the US.
