200 crore people in the world suffer from Anaemia

(Anaemia is iron deficiency in the blood i.e. not enough haemoglobin or RBCs in the blood)

New Delhi – According to the ‘Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation’, around 200 crore people are suffering from anaemia worldwide. This figure is more than diabetic patients. Due to lack of iron, growth and development of the body stops. Body organs may fail. Hair loss occurs during pregnancy and can adversely affect the health of both mother and child.

  • Iron is a very special mineral, which is essential for the growth and development of our body. Haemoglobin in our blood is made with the help of iron.
  • If there is less iron deficiency in the body, haemoglobin is less. Our muscles contain a special protein called myoglobin. This protein stores oxygen and delivers it to the muscles as needed.
  • Iron plays a major role in making myoglobin. Our body needs iron to make various hormones.
  • Iron deficiency causes weakness, which can cause many other diseases.
