New Delhi – Admiral Dinesh Trpathi has taken the charge as the 26th Chief of the Indian Navy from R Hari Kumar, who is retiring as the Chief of Indian Navy. The announcement was made on the afternoon of 30th April. Admiral Tripathi is also a communication and electronic war expert.

Born on 15th May 1964, Admiral Tripathi was commissioned into the Executive Branch of Indian Navy on 1st July 1985. He has served nearly 39 years as a communications and electronic warfare expert. He served as the ‘Flag Officer Commandor-in-Chief’ of the Western Naval Command before assuming the charge of Naval Staff.
After taking the charge as the Chief of the Indian Navy, he said, “Over the years, our Navy has evolved into a battle-ready, cohesive, and reliable division. Existing and emerging challenges in the maritime domain dictate that the Indian Navy must always be proven to deter potential adversaries at sea and win wars at the sea. This will be my sole aim and endeavour. I will continue to strive to take the Indian Navy towards a self-reliant India through cutting-age technology.” Admiral Tripathi also expressed the resolve to strengthen collective efforts by making the Indian Navy an important pillar of ‘Developed India’.
