More than 1,500 Govt officials steal grains from the ration centres

Alibag (Maharashtra) – In an appalling incident that took place in Raigad District, nearly 1,656 Government employees stole food grains meant to be distributed at the ration centres free of cost among the poor people. The interrogation of these employees is going on. The theft has come to light because of the Aadhaar linked system.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, food grains with quantity of 35 kg per person per month are being distributed to those below poverty line and low-income families i.e. Antyodaya families and 5 kg per person to priority families respectively. 80 crore beneficiaries in the country will be given free food grains for the next 5 years. The Union Government is spending ₹12,00,000 crore for this.

A committee has been formed to investigate the food grain thieves. Food grains will be recovered from these employees.

Editorial Perspective

Government schemes do not reach the poor because of such Government employees who steal the food grains meant for the people. These employees should be immediately dismissed and put behind bars !
