Chennai – The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license of Jesus Redeems, an NGO run by Christian Evangelist Mohan C. Lazarus. Tuticorin-based Jesus Redeems has a very dubious record of receiving foreign funds from organisations that are known to have sinister designs against Indian Interests.

In November 2023, a Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) filed a complaint with the Union Home Ministry. It said that ‘Jesus Redeems’ and its foreign donors should be thoroughly investigated. The actions of Mohan Lazarus, head of Jesus Redeems, violate various sections of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010. It also involves creating animosity among various sections of the society. Therefore, his license to receive foreign funds should be revoked. The complaint further stated that ‘Jesus Redeems’ organises Christian programs in many countries of the world and invites pastors from various countries including China. The expenditure of such incidents and its audit report should be investigated.

Jesus Redeems has been heavily funded by the Dangote Group, a mining conglomerate in Nigeria, which has close ties to the Chinese Government-owned Sinoma International Engineering Company Limited. The Nigerian establishment has signed a contract worth billions of rupees with this Chinese establishment.

Editorial Perspective

Timely action should be taken against such organisations which are doing irreparable harm to the Indian society by working against the national interest. This is the first step in that direction, such organisations should be banned.
