Shri Saraswati Devi disrespected at Govt Art College in Tripura

Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bajrang Dal protest over Idol not being dressed in traditional saree

Agartala (Tripura) – On 14th February, a Saraswati Puja was organised at the Government Art and Craft College in Tripura. However, the Idol of Shri Saraswati Devi was not dressed in a traditional saree at this event as it looked obscene. Activists of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bajrang Dal came up and dressed the Idol in traditional saree. These activists staged a protest here against this incident. ABVP Tripura unit secretary Diwakar Acharya led the protest. Finally, the college administration changed the Idol and covered it.

Acharya said, “As we all know, Shri Saraswati Devi is worshipped all over the country on Vasant Panchami. We received information in the morning that the Idol of Shri Saraswati Devi at the Government Art and Craft College has been depicted in a very wrong and indecent manner. The Idol of Shri Saraswati Devi was not dressed in a traditional saree. So, we protested against it. After that, Bajrang Dal came to know about it. So, they also participated in the protest. Later, the Idol was dressed in a saree.”

The Police also visited the spot, but the college did not file any complaint against the protesters. The Police clarified that ABVP and Bajrang Dal have also not filed any complaint against the college.

Traditional Idol made – College clarifies

The college administration said that the traditional sculpting as followed in Hindu temples was also followed while making this Idol. We did not intend to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
