Mumbai – ‘The Cultural Ministry is actively engaged in preserving the historical heritage of the State. The Archaeology Department has taken control of 386 structures across the State. Additionally, funds have been allocated for the removal of encroachments on Vishalgad’, informed Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.

Sudhir Mungantiwar shared the above details during a seminar on ‘Conservation and Management of Heritage in Maharashtra,’ organised by Cultural Affairs Ministry and Archaeology Department of the State Government at Ravindra Natya Mandir. Distinguished guests, including Dr Tejas Garge, Director of the Archaeology Department and Meenal Joglekar, Director of P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, were also present.

Sudhir Mungantiwar elaborated that the State Government is actively preserving ancient structures through the ‘Maha Varasa’ scheme. Under this initiative, conservation efforts are being facilitated through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund. Over the next 4-5 years, our goal is to improve these ancient structures. 3% of the District Planning Committee fund has been earmarked for the conservation and protection of these historical structures.

A web portal displaying information about historical monuments should be created

To uphold the sanctity of historical sites, collective efforts and coordination are imperative. Experts engaged in the conservation of ancient monuments and Government agencies should share information with the public while ensuring the preservation and protection of these monuments. Incorporating new technology for this purpose is essential. Mungantiwar also emphasised the need to establish a web portal for these endeavours.
