Karnavati/Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – A Bajrang Dal leader’s petition in the Gujarat High Court against the loudspeakers on the mosques has been rejected by Gujarat High Court. The Court said that the Azaan is only for 5 to 10 minutes, and it is human voice which cannot cross permitted decibel. Loudspeakers on the mosques are being used since long and they do not cause noise pollution. The Court asked the petitioner’s lawyer, “When Aarti is performed at 3 a.m., drums and music create a lot of noise, how can you say that the sound of temple bells is limited to temple premises ? We will not accept such petition.”

Editorial Perspective

If Aarti in a temple creates noise pollution, the Police can act against it. However, in many cases, the promptness shown to act on temples loudspeakers, the same promptness is not shown in the case of mosques. This is the reality. Citizens expect that the Court intervenes in this matter.
