Dharwad (Karnataka) – “Lingayats who use the term ‘Hindu’ have no future. The confusion about this among the Lingayats should be cleared first. After that, Lingayats must drop the term ‘Hindu’ if they want religion. Jain and Sikhs are now recognised as independent religions. We believe that Lingayat religion will also be recognised as an independent religion, and it also deserves to be recognised as an independent religion. Therefore, it’s important for Lingayats to become informed about this matter rather than adhering to Hindutva. There should be discussion in this regard”, such statements were made by Nijgunananda Swamiji of Nishkala Mantapa at Ballur. He was speaking in a programme which was organised at Channabasweshwar in Lingayat Bhavan and organised by All India Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha, Dharwad District Mahasabha that was sponsored by State Government. In this event, students from Lingayat community who scored good marks in class 12th were awarded.
Nijgunananda Swamiji further said that the present state of the Lingayat community is one of perplexity, indicating a potentially vulnerable position in the coming 40 years. Consequently, it is imperative for Lingayats to awaken to this reality and consider establishing themselves as an independent religious entity rather than being confined by caste distinctions. This matter holds profound significance, underscoring the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of the principles of Lingayat Dharma. To achieve this, the All India Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha is urged to spearhead the initiative, creating a platform conducive to contemplation and deliberation involving the leadership from various Muths.
