Doctors are resigning in Britain
Washington (US) –There is a shortage of doctors in the US in spite of the fact that their average annual salaries are approximately Rs 3 crore. This is the situation when the cost of medical facilities in the US is the highest in the world. There is a greater demand for Psychiatrists, as there is an increase in the mental health issues in the patients. On the other hand, doctors in Britain are resigning because of less salary and pressure at work and are looking for jobs in Canada and Australia.
According to the statistics from the ‘Association of American Medical Colleges’ in the next decade, there will be a shortage of 1.24 lakh doctors in the US. Here annually only 85,000 students are admitted to Medical Colleges. It takes 8 years to complete the medical course in the US. Of this, 4 years for the degree and 4 years for medicine. In other countries, this education is completed in 5-6 years. Because of the long time taken for completing the course, many students leave without completing it.
According to the NGO ‘Peterson KFF’, more than 30% of medical personnel have left the medical field post-COVID.
‘American Medical Association’s President and Physician Jesse Ehrenfeld said that most Doctors do not desire to make their children Doctors. As of now, there is no job satisfaction in this profession.
Editorial Perspective
The work of a doctor has a great responsibility and these responsibilities have to be handled effectively. Doctors need to have this kind of attitude. It should be analysed whether Westerners are neglecting this attitude resulting in such a situation. |
