Stone-pelting by unknown individual at Eid procession; Muslims retaliate by stone-pelting at Hindus’ homes in Shivamogga (Karnataka)

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – After some unknown miscreants pelted stones on Muslim’s evening procession on the occasion of Eid in the Shanti Nagar area of Shivamogga Karnataka, the Muslims pelted stones at Hindus’ homes. The Police had to lathicharge to bring the situation under control. Section 144 was imposed in the area. Presently there is a large Police presence. The stone-pelting on the procession occurred after it reached the Ragi Gudda area.

There was hoarding of Tipu Sultan. It showed Tipu Sultan killing a Hindu soldier. This made the situation tense. The Police covered the hoarding with cloth and called for reinforcements. After sometime a Muslim Youth wrote ‘Tiger Tipu’ with his blood on the hoarding. Then the procession moved on. After that, stones were pelted on the procession, in response, Muslims began to attack the neighbouring Hindus’ homes. The Police then lathicharged to disperse the Muslims. 4 individuals were injured in the lathicharge. They have been admitted to the hospital.

‘Are such incidents new for Shivamogga ?’

The State Home Minister G Parmeshwar said the following things about the incident,

1. Four persons have been arrested for this incident. I know their names but will not disclose them, action will be taken against them according to the law. (Fanatic Muslims were the ones who rioted and as Congress is their protector, Parmeshwar is not disclosing their names; this is clear – Editor)

2. Is this incident new for Shivamogga ? (The incident is not new means it happens again and again. It is clear that this is because of the inaction of Shivamogga’s Police and Administration. Still the administration does not feel any embarrassment in admitting it – Editor) The Police are capable and will bring the situation under control. It was known that there is tension in that area. And they knew also, that some incident would occur when the procession came into the area; so it did not turn into a major incident. It was controlled.

3. Riots are provoked by putting up hoardings and placards. Such incidents are happening in the entire State. We have brought the situation under control. Police are arresting people of both the communities. We did not allow any untoward thing to happen in this incident. Both the communities have been warned. And naturally legal action will be taken on those ignoring the warnings.

• Was there an intentional conspiracy to attack with stones the Eid procession, such that it would give an excuse to attack the Hindus ? This angle should be investigated as well.
• Will hiding the hoarding end the fanaticism among the Tipu lovers ? Instead, why don’t the Police show the courage to take action against those who put up such provocative hoardings ?
