New Delhi – In view of China’s increasingly aggressive activities on the border, India has made dynamic efforts to build roads in the last 3 years. A large network of roads has been built along the border. As a result, the movement of soldiers on the border is becoming easier and safer. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under the Ministry of Defence has built roads in 60% of the total area along the Chinese border. Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed in Parliament that a total of 2,445.54 km long roads has been constructed on India-China and India-Pakistan borders in the last 3 years.

In a written reply, Bhatt said, ‘Majority of road construction so far has been carried out in Arunachal Pradesh with a length of 507.14 km. Besides this, in Ladakh 453.59 km, Uttarakhand 343.56 km, and Sikkim 164.95 km, while in Himachal Pradesh 40.23 km long roads have been constructed on the India-China border in the last 3 years.
Bhatt further said that a large number of roads were constructed in the last 3 years along the border with Pakistan as well. Under this, 443.94 km of roads were constructed in Jammu and Kashmir, and 311.14 km of roads in Rajasthan.

In June 2020, China invaded the Indian border at Galwan in Ladakh. At that time, the Indian soldiers gave a befitting reply and killed around 100 Chinese soldiers. Following that, India took a tough stance on defence and started building roads on a large scale along the border with Pakistan and China.

Not only roads, but also bridges, accommodation for soldiers, and tunnels have been constructed in the border areas. For this, a provision of ₹923 crore was made to BRO in the financial year 2022-23.
