New Delhi – Incidents of online fraud of stealing money using stolen voice pieces from mobile phones have come to light. This type of fraud is known as voice cloning fraud. In this the fraudsters copy anyone’s voice and exact manner of speech from their mobile phone using AI tools. After this the thugs call the family, relative or friend of the one whose voice has been copied. They use the exact copied voice and tell that, ‘I am in trouble.’, the mobile phone is dysfunctional and urgently need money. Neither the family members nor relatives disbelieve that the voice is fake. They feel that the speaker is their own relative. Then the thugs send them a ‘bar code’ and ask them to deposit money in it. The relatives immediately send the money out of concern and thus get deceived.
The thugs also use the copied voice for getting information regarding that person’s debit and credit card details and withdraw money from that person’s account. An appeal to be careful about this is being made on social media. The appeal also asks people to disconnect the call and contact the victim’s mobile to check the veracity.
