Consequences of Congress’ promise of free electricity in Karnataka
Residents refusing to pay electricity bill
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The Congress had promised to give free electricity during the Karnataka assembly elections campaign Manifesto. Now that Congress has come to power, it is coming to light that the residents are refusing to pay the electricity bills at some places in the State such as – Chamrajnagar, Udupi, Raichur, Kalburgi, etc. The people are telling each other not to pay the electricity bill. Videos going viral on social media show that at some places the people are telling the ‘electricity bill delivery workers’, “we will not pay”.
1. At Honnur village in Yalandur taluka of Chamarajnagar District, the electricity employees were sent back when they have come to deliver the electricity bills. Citizens demanded, ‘the Congress Government should immediately fulfil the promise of providing free electricity.
2. In Tarafoul area of Kalburgi town, the citizens are found telling the electricity staff, “Why do you have come to us ? We will not pay the electricity bill.” Therefore, this has caused controversy at some places.
3. Vasudeo Bhat, a social activist from Udupi, has pasted a poster of the message, ‘Don’t pay electricity bill from June’ on his electricity meter board. “I am eligible for the ‘200 units of free electricity scheme’, announced by the Congress. Therefore, I will not pay the electricity bill from June,” he claimed.
