New Delhi – Despite wearing a hijab, do not send your daughters to school or college alone. This is haram (forbidden in Islam). I condemn those who send their daughters alone to coaching classes during the Holy month of Ramzan. Allah will send them to Hell, stated All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Spokesperson and senior cleric Maulana Khalil-ur-Rahman Sajjad Nomani in a video that went viral on social media.

Maulana Nomani said further, “do the parents know whether their girls go to class or somewhere else ? Parents should not send them alone to school or college. Even if you have to send your girls to college, meet the college Principal and request them to inform you whether she attended all classes or she bunked classes and went somewhere else.”

Criticism by Islamic thinkers

After the statement of Maulana Nomani, some Islamic thinkers have criticised it. Coordinator of AIMPLB Javed Anand said, “I just want to ask Maulana whether he means to keep the girls away from education by making such statements ?”

Editorial perspective

Do Women organisations, the Women Commission and secular political parties agree with Maulana ? If not, then will they oppose it ?
