Statement of retired Supreme Court Judge Chelameshwar !
Kochi (Kerala) – “Some Judges are lazy. They don’t even write judgments on time. It takes years for them to write a judgment. Some of them are not even able to work”, said Retd. Supreme Court Judge Chelameshwar in a seminar on – ‘Is the Collegium different from the Constitution ?’ He also alleged, “The Collegium works in a very opaque manner. Usually, no action is taken when an allegation is brought against a Judge”.

Justice Chelameshwar added, “All cases come before the Collegium, but nothing happens. If the allegations are serious, action should be taken. It is common practice that Judges who are accused should be transferred. If I say anything, I will be opposed after retirement, claiming – He is disturbing the Judiciary. This is my luck. No one is paying attention to how the Collegium system will be strengthened to benefit the common man”.

Coming from a retired Judge, this is very serious matter. Will the Judiciary and the Government take corrective action at the earliest possible ? |
