Clashes and stone-pelting in two groups at Nandurbar

28 people arrested

Nandurbar (Maharashtra) –  A group of people suddenly started stone-pelting in the central area of Nandurbar, creating tension at 11.30 p.m. on the 4th of April 2023. Two Police personnel and a few young men have been injured in the attack. The Police, however, reached the place of the incident in time, bringing the situation under control. So far, 28 people have been arrested in this connection.

1. A group of people suddenly came to the ‘Maharashtra Vyayamshala’ area in Nandurbar and pelted stones. The people in the area, who were sleeping at that time, were terrified. Some people from the group tried to vandalise the vehicles and set them on fire.

2. Another group came on the road to stop the attack and retaliated with stone pelting. Glass bottles and bricks were used on a large scale in these clashes.

3. There was a timely intervention by the Police who tried to stop the attacks, showing a lot of courage. However, Police inspectors Kiran Khedkar, Ravindra Kalamkar, and two staff members were injured in the attack. The Police were able to bring the situation under control and establish peace by 3.00 a.m.

4. Twenty-eight people have been arrested by the Police in this connection and cases have been registered. Two vehicles were damaged in the attack. It is said that the incident took place out of an old rivalry.

5. On the 5th of April 2023, a meeting of the ‘peace committee’ was held by the Police, appealing to both factions to maintain peace.
