Nagpur (Maharashtra) – The Indian family structure based on a joint family system is the best in the world. The system of ‘Live-in relationships’ growing across the world is detrimental and the degeneration of the joint family system is the root cause of all problems. The world is facing many problems, among which many are created due to the disappearing family system, stated Meg Jones, the Chief of United Nations Women’s Empowerment, who has been quite impressed with the Indian culture. She has come here in connection with the C-20 summit and she was talking with the media. She is of Australian origin.

The Government should take initiative for reviving the joint family system !
Ms Jones said further that
1. The culture of a joint family system should be propagated across the world. Considering the challenges likely to be faced in the future, the Government should take the initiative in promoting this system. Many problems are created if there are only husband-wife and children. Women have to stay home if there are senior citizens or children at home, leading to their losing many opportunities for their rights and progress in careers, which adversely affects their empowerment. The Government machinery should, therefore, try to give more thrust to creating employment opportunities involving ‘work from home’ facilities.
2. In many countries of the world, everything remains only on paper in the name of women’s empowerment. The Indian Government has, however, introduced many schemes for women and is emphasising on their implementation. Even countries like Australia need to learn from this example.
3. Many countries in the world are indifferent towards the schemes related to women-empowerment. The schemes are not implemented. It is, therefore, necessary to identify the responsibility of operating schemes for women and take them to the real needy.

It will be too late for progressive factions and reformists from this country to realise what people of other countries have already understood ! |
