Pandharpur (Dist. Solapur) – The Government has no right to take over temples. Managing temples is not the job of a Government. The Government has not touched any non-Hindu places of worship, then why only Hindus’ temples are under the Government’s control ? I have got released many temples from the control of Governments. I shall get even Shri Vitthal – Rukmini temple of Pandharpur released from the Government’s control; however, the houses of people and Saints’ ‘Dharmashalas’ will be protected, was the assurance given by a senior BJP leader and devout Hindu activist Dr Subramanian Swamy. He was speaking in a programme held to get legal guidance and to discuss the issue of releasing Vitthal Mandir from the Government’s control and cancelling the proposed plan to construct a ‘Corridor’. Ha.Bha.Pa. Devavrata (Rana) Maharaj Vaskar, Nivrutti Maharaj Namdas, Chaitanya Maharaj Dehukar, Mr Jagadishji Shetty of ‘Virat Hindustan Sangam, Maharashtra’, Mr Satya Sabarwal, Mr Manohar Shetty, Mr Govind Hari of Tirupati Devasthana and advocate Dhananjay Ranade were the other dignitaries who shared the dais with Dr Swamy.

Dr Swamy said on the occasion,
1. Hindus should remain united. The Government’s taking over temples and imposing the ‘Corridor’ on people are both unjust things. I am soon going to write to PM Narendra Modi in this context, for him to take immediate note of it; else, we are, anyway, going to win the legal fight.
2. The alert locals of Pandharpur brought up the matter of ‘Corridor’ to us, and we decided to go with them. Let there be any government, but it is the duty of every Government to take people in confidence and work. If the Government is not going to wake up, we shall make it aware of its duties.
3. We shall soon file a petition in the Mumbai High Court to release this temple from the Government’s control. There is opposition from locals to the ‘Corridor’ plan, and we shall not allow suppression of the locals.
All office bearers and members of Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Mandir Sanrakshan Kruti Samiti, Warakari Sampradaya Paeek Sangh, Shri Shivapratishthan Hindustan, Pandharpur Teerthakshetra Bachao Samiti and Sant-bhumi Bhachao Samiti worked hard for successfully holding this programme.
