Cooch Behar (Bengal) – The convoy of the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, Nisith Pramanik, was attacked by a few people from the mob with crude bombs and stones. 1. Sumit Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP) said that the scuffle ensued when some people gathered on the route of his convoy waved black flags at him as the members of the convoy had arguments with the people waving black flags. The Police on duty, however, intervened and kept the situation under control. Nobody has been arrested in this connection.

2. Minister Pramanik said that the mob gathered carrying sticks, stones, and other weapons in the presence of the Police. BJP members would not keep quiet in case of another such attack.

Editorial viewpoints

  • The only solution to such incidents is to impose President’s rule in Bengal. It is not possible to stop such incidents till then !
  • One cannot think of the safety of ordinary citizens of this State, since there is no guarantee of even the Central Ministers’ safety here !
