Jaipur (Rajasthan) – On the night of 30th September, some Muslim youth entered the Graba organised on the occasion of the Navratri festival. The youth fled when Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists arrived. Recently, Muslim youths who had entered in a similar way were beaten up in Ahmedabad, Indore, and Akola.

The Garba was held in Upavan at Narayan Vatika, Jaipur. Some Muslim youths approached the entrance and began arguing with the security guards. Youths broke through the security guard’s resistance and entered. The security guards informed the organisers. Bajrang Dal and VHP activists reached the spot before the organisers called the Police. As part of the verification process, they checked the identity cards of everyone gathered for the Garba. Meanwhile the Muslim youth who had entered there fled. Two of the five organisers of this Garba event were Muslims. As a result of opposition from Bajrang Dal and VHP, these 2 organisers were removed.

Editorial viewpoint

Why do only Muslim youth sneak in at the Garba events ? Why do Muslim girls and women never come to the Garba ? What do progressives and atheists have to say about this ?
