Guwahati (Assam) – The local residents of Goalpara in Assam united and demolished a madarasa. Commenting on the incident, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The madarasas demolished so far were not madarasas, but Al-Qaeda’s hubs. We demolished 2 or 3 madarasas, now the people are demolishing them on their own. The local Muslims are coming forward and saying that they do not want madarasas where Al-Qaeda activities are conducted”.
Goalpara Madarasa cleric Jalaluddin Sheikh was arrested for participating in terrorist activities. Animul Islam, Usman, Mehadi Hassan and Jahangir Alom are absconding, and two of these are connected with the Al-Qaeda.
