Salman Rushdie attacked for writing ‘The Satanic Verses’ : Writer Taslima Nasreen

New Delhi – The famous writer Salman Rushdie was attacked by 24-year-old Irani-American Hadi Matar. Hadi Matar‘s Facebook account has pictures of Ayatullah Khomeini, who had taken out a fatwa against Rushdie in 1989, and that of his successor Ayatullah Khamenei. Taslima Nasreen, a Bangladeshi residing presently in India, has tweeted that the motive for the attack can be deduced from this.

In another tweet, Nasreen said, ‘I feel the person who wanted to kill Rushdie for writing ‘the Satanic Verses’ had not read the book. The Islamic fundamentalists who are threatening to kill me for writing books, have not read a single book of mine.’

Taslima added further, that Islam should not be exempted from the religious reforms other religions are subjected through. The movement of the process of reforming Islam, by questioning the inhuman, biased, unscientific, and illogical aspects of Islam.
