Proposal of Pakistan’s Punjab Government

Lahore (Pakistan) – The newly appointed Government in Pakistan’s Punjab province has given a proposal to the imprisoned minorities, namely Hindu, Christian, and Sikh. If they read their Holy Texts (the Bhagawadgita, the Bible, and Guru Granth Sahib) they will get a reduction in their sentence by 3 to 6 months. An Officer of the Home Department of Punjab said a proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister. It will be implemented after the cabinet passes it’.  There are one thousand one hundred and eighty-eight minority prisoners in the 34 prisons of the Punjab Province.

1. In the month of March, a Christian Prisoner presented a plea in the High Court requesting a reduction in his sentence. In it, he had said that as per rule 215 of the Pakistan Prison Rule 1978, just as ‘there is a reduction in the sentence of a Muslim Prisoner similar reduction should be given to prisoners of the Minority religions’

2. There is also a proposal for a reduction in  Muslim Prisoners’ sentence from 3 months to 2 years if he recites the Quran. This proposal has to be passed by the Cabinet.

Editorial viewpoint

It is necessary to teach Sadhana to the Hindu prisoners in India, and get them to follow Dharma (righteousness) ! By doing so their criminal tendencies will reduce and they will reform !
