Rs 500 crore being deposited in 3 lakh bank accounts of PFI by Islamic countries every year

BAN PFI

New Delhi – According to National Investigation Agency (NIA) sources, Popular Front of India (PFI) receives Rs 500 crore annually from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. This money is sent through ‘Western Union’ to different accounts under the name of family expenses. One lakh bank accounts of PFI members and 2 lakh bank accounts of their relatives and acquaintances are used for this purpose. The amount is deposited from different accounts every month. NIA is inquiring where this huge sum is being spent. From the investigation so far, it is noticed that the PFI spends funds on organisations that indoctrinate the youth into Islamic fundamentalism.

In June this year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case of financial misappropriation against PFI, and 33 bank accounts of its associate organisation ‘Rehab India Foundation’ have been frozen. Rs 60 crore and 58 crore were deposited in their accounts respectively. The amount was withdrawn from the accounts to avoid prosecution. At the time of the ED’s action, there were only Rs 68 lakh in the accounts.

Expenditure on movements of Muslims and against Government policy

PFI spends heavily on protesting Government policies against Muslims. Legal aid is also provided to Muslim prisoners. PFI has formed organisations like ‘Socialist Democratic Front of India’, ‘Campus Front of India’. According to an official of the Intelligence agency, PFI is repeating the same mistakes made by the banned organisation SIMI. SIMI activists are active in PFI.

Possibility of a ban on PFI

PFI is likely to be banned if it is found to be using money received from abroad for terrorist activities. Intelligence agencies of several States have identified PFI as a suspect. Jharkhand has imposed restrictions on this organisation, but then it was removed by the High Court.

Demand of Islamic organisation to ban PFI

A proposal to ban organisations like PFI has been approved in a Conference organised by the ‘All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Council’. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present for this Conference. Council President Hazrat Syed Nasruddin Chishti has demanded restrictions on radical organisations.

Editorial viewpoints

  • Have the investigation agencies found out where such a large amount of money was spent ?
  • If an Islamic organisation is receiving so much money, then it is impossible to imagine how much money other Islamic organisations, madarasas, mosques, etc. must be receiving.
  • It is impossible to guage how much money Islamic organisations, madarasas, mosques, etc. must be receiving !
