Jammu (J&K) – The students of GGM Science College in Jammu recited Hanuman Chalisa when the namaz was being offered in the Mosque. The Azaan is made through the loudspeakers on the Mosque every Friday near the College. This can be heard in the College. So, the students showed their opposition to this disturbance by chanting Jai Shriram and reciting Hanuman Chalisa. The Police then took custody of some of these students, they were taken to the Police station and kept there for some time.

The students said that they had many times complained to the College Administration and the District Administration that the sound from the loudspeakers of the mosque could be heard in the college and created an obstacle to their studying. The College and District administration discussed the matter with the Mosque’s Committee, but the sound from the loudspeakers of the Mosque did not reduce. So, they decided to recite Hanuman Chalisa.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • The Supreme Court has ordered that the areas surrounding the Schools, Colleges, and Hospitals, should be declared as ‘Silence zones’. If this is the case, then what was the Government doing when the students of the College were disturbed by the noise of the loudspeakers of the nearby mosque ?
  • The Government should take tough action against those who do not obey orders.  Why should the students of the college ignore their studies and come out on the streets to show their opposition to the loud noise of the Mosque loudspeakers which disturb their studies ?
