Fatwa for school students in Prayagraj (UP)

  • Wear a round cap, make a video saying Eid Mubarak and post on the school group
  • Angry Hindu parents lodge complaints to Chief Minister

Prayagraj (UP) – On the occasion of Eid, Nyaya Nagar Public School, Jhusi has issued a fatwa asking students to make a video wearing kurtas, pyjamas and a round cap and wish Eid Mubarak.  The students were then asked to post the video on the school’s social media group. The girl students were also instructed to wear salwar, kurta and dupatta and do the same. The school issued a statement saying students participating in this initiative will be given additional marks in the annual examination. This was objected to by some of the parents.

Sandeep Pathak complained with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Collector and the Police. Taking immediate notice of this, Prayagraj Police officials instructed the inspectors of Jhunsi Police station to investigate and take necessary action.

The Headmaster of the school, Bushra Mustafa, said that extra-curricular activities are organised in the school during all the festivals including Dussehra, Diwali, Independence Day and Republic Day. Similarly, on the occasion of Eid this year, children were asked to make a video saying, Eid Mubarak. (Would the headmaster respond why on Dussehra, Diwali, the students of the minority community were not asked to make a video saying Shubh Dussehra or Shubh Diwali ? Editor). Parents who do not agree can cancel the admission of their children. (It would not be incorrect if someone thinks – Why should Hindu parents keep their children in the school of such arrogant religious fanatics ? Editor)

Editorial viewpoint

Does the school, which has issued such a fatwa in the name of secularism, ever advise students to dress in Hindu attire during Hindu festivals and give good wishes ?
