Protest against offering Namaz in college premises at Jaipur

Recitation of Hanuman Chalisa by ABVP

Editorial comment

With a Congress Government in Rajasthan, such occurrences by religious fanatics are bound to happen.

ABVP students protesting and reciting Hanuman Chalisa in the college

Jaipur (Rajasthan) – Some Muslim students had offered Namaz on 12th November at a Rajasthan College. It was objected to, so the Police stopped these students from offering Namaz. Some students of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) clashed with the Police. They demanded that either Muslim students should be allowed to offer Namaz in the open or they should be allotted a separate place for it. On the other hand, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against this and recited Hanuman Chalisa in the college. This has led to a state of tension in the college.

According to NSUI, the teachers and security guards who prevented the students from offering Namaz are affiliated with the RSS. NSUI District President, Rajesh Choudhary, said that students of all religions come here to learn; but the teachers associated with the Sangh only harass students of certain religions. This is not acceptable to us. Until teachers and security guards who disrupt religious harmony are fired, we will continue to protest.

ABVP State Minister Hushyar Meena said that some miscreants have tried to disrupt religious harmony in the college premises. If no legal action is taken against them, then ABVP will carry out a State-wide agitation.
