Delhi High Court’s recommendation to the Central Govt
New Delhi – Delhi High Court recommended to the Central Government, ‘We lost so many youth during the 2nd wave of the coronavirus and we are very sorry for that. You are trying to save such people who have lived their life fully; senior citizens cannot govern the Nation. We do not mean to say do not give priority to senior citizens, but if there is a shortage of the vaccine, then decide the priority. Give preference to the young generation as the Nation’s future lies in their hands’.
The Court recommended this at the time of the hearing a petition related to shortage of vaccine, increasing number of patients suffering from black fungus, shortage of the medicines required for such patients.

The Court further opined,
- After experiencing shortage of vaccine and medicines, other Nations have altered their priority. We read that in Italy during the shortage of hospital beds, they stopped admitting senior citizens in the hospital.
- Today, we read that the Government has made a policy for orphan children. Why was it needed ? A child can get love and affection from Parents only, who else ? Hence, they should be saved on priority.
If the Central Government did not have the vaccine, then why did it announce vaccination ?
The Court observed, ‘we do not understand if the Central Government had insufficient vaccine, then why did they announce vaccination ? If you do not have enough vaccine, then fix the priority. Why did you take the decision of first providing vaccine to citizens above 60 ?’
