| This is a clear violation of the model code of conduct of the EC. no individual or political party can seek votes on communal, religious lines. however, when religious fanatics do not care about the law of land, how can we expect their patron Mamata to respect it ? |

Kolkata – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to Muslim voters in the State to unite against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during an election rally in the poll-bound State at Tarakeshwar in Hooghly District. She is contesting elections from Nandigram.
“I am requesting my minority brothers and sisters with folded hands; do not divide the minority votes after listening to the devil (Shaitaan) who had taken money from the BJP. He passes many communal statements and initiates clashes between the Hindus and the Muslims. He is one of the apostles of the BJP, a BJP comrade. The comrades of CPM and BJP are roaming around with money given by BJP to divide the minority votes”, said Banerjee. The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that Banerjee has violated the provisions of the model code of conduct.
