Chennai bakery owner arrested for allegedly advertising discriminating Muslims

The Police take immediate action when the religious sentiments of Muslims are hurt; however, when the religious sentiments of Hindus are being hurt every day through various mediums, no action is taken despite lodging complaints, holding agitations, etc. Is this the definition of secularism in India ?

On the one hand, the action is taken against such type of complaints; on the other, ‘Halal-certified’ food items are sold legally in the country. Is this not discrimination ? Why the businessmen have to pay thousands of rupees to Islamic organisations for procuring Halal certificate ?

Chennai – The owner of a bakery in Chennai, Prashant has been arrested for an advertisement he posted on WhatsApp which was allegedly discriminatory against Muslims. The baker, who does business online, had shared an advertisement about products on WhatsApp that said, “Made by Jains on order. No Muslim staff”, the Police said. The shop “Jain Bakeries and Confectioneries” is located in the K. T. Nagar area.

A case of malicious intent to outrage religious feelings and intent to breach peace has been registered, the Police sources said. An investigation is on.
