Bihar: Promotion of Agricultural Officer who made Home Guard Personnel do Uthabasha

Bihar Government clarified that the officer has been called to the headquarters to avoid any interference in the investigation.

If the investigation was not to be interfered with, it seemed, then why was the Agriculture Officer not suspended and sent home ? Authority increases with promotion. Therefore, how can it be said that giving promotion will not interfere with the investigation ?

Araria (Bihar) – A few days ago, the vehicle of District Agriculture Officer Manoj Kumar was stopped by a home guard of the Home Guards Force at a checkpoint for violating travel restrictions. Enraged by this, Manoj Kumar made the guard do Uthabasha (Repeated sitting and standing by holding ears) as a punishment. The video of the incident was aired through various social media. Thereafter, an inquiry was ordered into the incident, but instead of taking action against Manoj Kumar in this case, the news of his promotion to the post of Deputy Director of District Agriculture Department has come to light.

The Police Officer present at the time of the incident was suspended by the Police administration. Concerning this incident, the Bihar Human Rights Organization has given a notice to the District Magistrate and the Police Administration, asking them to file their reply by 6^th May. In this context, the State Agriculture Minister Prem Kumar said that action will be taken against Manoj Kumar. An FIR has been filed against him
