Former TMC MLA Tapan Chaterjee Arrested !

  • Arrest after Large Stock of Government Relief Material Found at His Residence

  • Locals shouting ‘Chor Chor’ slogans

Bardhaman (West Bengal) – The residence of the former MLA Tapan Chatterjee of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in East Bardhaman district was raided by the Police and he was arrested. Police acted after receiving information that the former MLA had stored Government relief material at his residence. A large quantity of tarpaulins, blankets, footballs, volleyballs and other material was seized from his house. Such material is generally meant for distribution among disaster-affected people, youth clubs and educational institutions.

1.The local residents raised slogans of ‘Chor Chor’ when the Police arrested and took away Tapan Chatterjee. After the raids on his residence, Police are now searching several godowns linked to him.

2. Earlier, the Police had arrested Dipankar Bhattacharya, the Chairman of Baduria Municipality in North 24 Parganas district, after a huge amount of cash and thousands of Government tarpaulin sheets were seized from premises linked to him. Similarly, tarpaulins meant for relief distribution were seized from premises linked to former TMC MLA Tarun Kumar Maiti in East Medinipur district.
