Pakistan rejects Donald Trump’s ‘Abraham Accords’ proposal

(Abraham Accords means recognition of the State of Israel by Islamic countries)

Washington DC (USA) – US President Donald Trump had called on Islamic countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar and others to join the ‘Abraham Accords’ to reach a peace deal with Iran. Trump had said that these countries’ participation in the agreement is mandatory. According to Trump, it included a clause for recognising the State of Israel. So far, these Islamic countries have not recognised Israel. Pakistan has rejected Trump’s call. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that this agreement, which is intended to improve diplomatic relations with Israel, is completely against Pakistan’s core ideology and policies.

Reportedly, Trump is constantly pressurising Pakistan to join this deal. When asked about this, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said, “Personally, I don’t think we should join any such accord which clashes with our core ideologies. How will you sit with those people whose words cannot be trusted for even a single day? We have a very clear stance that it is not acceptable to us.” Pakistan is the only country in the world that does not even have the name of Israel on its passport.

What is ‘Abraham Accords’?

The ‘Abraham Accords’ were launched in 2020 during Trump’s first term as President. They aim to restore diplomatic, economic, and security relations between Israel and Arab States. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were the first to sign the agreement in 2020. Morocco and Sudan later joined.

Pakistan’s stance

Pakistan’s official policy is that it will not recognise Israel until the Palestinian conflict is resolved and an independent Palestinian State is established. This policy has been in place since Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, strongly opposed the United Nations’ partition proposal for Palestine in 1947-48.

Editorial Perspective

It would have been a surprise had Pakistan approved this proposal! The reason being if it recognises Israel as a 'Jewish State' today, i.e. a State of infidels, then it can be pressurised to recognise Kashmir as a Hindu territory in future. Since Pakistan is a country based on the ideology of 'Dar al-Islam', it would not do this even in its dreams.
