Registration of more than 31,000 Waqf properties cancelled in Uttar Pradesh

Includes several graveyards and dargahs

Lakshmanpuri (Uttar Pradesh) – A major cleanliness drive of ‘digitisation’ of waqf properties is underway in Uttar Pradesh (UP), during which registrations are constantly being cancelled. So far, out of 1,18,302 properties registered on the ‘Ummeed Portal’ portal, the registration of 31,328 properties has been cancelled. This is likely to include the properties of many old graveyards and dargahs. Sources informed that several discrepancies were found in the documents of these Waqf properties during the investigation. The process of registering Waqf properties on the ‘Ummeed’ portal, launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs on June 5 last year, is currently underway.

Approval has been granted to 53,000 properties so far.

In the initial phase, a six-month period was provided for registration.

However, on the appeal of the Uttar Pradesh Sunni and Shia Central Waqf Board, the Waqf Tribunal had extended the registration period by another 6 months. This additional period ends on 5 June next month. So far, approval has been granted to just over 53,000 properties. The verification of documents of 20,546 properties is in the final stage.
