Toronto (Canada) – A court in Toronto has sentenced the convict in the murder case of Indian student Kartik Vasudev to life imprisonment. Justice Jane Kelly of the Toronto Superior Court found the accused, Richard Edwin, guilty of two separate murders committed on 7 April and 9 April 2022. In this case, the accused had admitted to shooting 21-year-old Kartik Vasudev.
The defence argued that at the time of the incident, the accused was suffering from a mental illness, schizophrenia, and was not in a condition to distinguish between right and wrong; therefore, he should not be held responsible. However, the Court rejected this claim. Kartik Vasudev was a resident of Ghaziabad. He had gone to Canada for higher education in January 2022, but was murdered there within a few months. Kartik’s father, Jitesh Vasudev, stated that after four years of legal battle, the family has finally received justice. He and his wife were present in Canada for the final hearing.
